My Portfolio
Welcome to my portfolio - I have presented some of my the projects I am most proud of here. Please have a look through...
Crochet
I learned to crochet when I was 11 years old and was taught by my Nan. Over the years my style has improved drastically due to practice and determination, and not being afraid to start over. I have created many designs from crocheting, from blankets to socks to glasses holders to bags to cute animals with beady eyes and blush cheeks. I have presented a few examples here...

Heinz Beans -
For this project, I crocheted a tin of beans with four orange bean plushies sticking out. This piece required more than the skill of crochet as I had to create the label of the tin by hand sewing with felt.
Temperature Blanket -
This was an interesting project as it took exactly a year to complete. I took the highest temperature of each day of the year from my location, and then crocheted a line for that day in the colour that I had assigned for that specific temperature.

Hoover Hats -
For this project, I made a set of six festive plushies that can be velcroed on top of the hoover at my local dance school - a hat of sorts. I made one for each season (Spring - Flower, Summer - Bee, Autumn - Pumpkin, Winter - Christmas Hat) and two for the festivities of Halloween and Easter (Witch's hat and a Baby Chick).
Crochet Cardigan -
I really enjoyed creating this project as at the end I had a lovely cardigan to wear. Making it was no easy task, as I was constantly counting stitches to create the hole effect, yet it was necessary as it gives the cardigan the ability to stretch perfectly around the body.
Crochet Flowers -
This is a project that I made as a present. I crocheted six tulips in different coordinated colours and secured them onto pipe cleaners to make them stand up in a plant pot and to consequently make them adjustable.
Rainbow Cardigan -
For this project, I followed a tutorial on Pinterest on how to create a six sided granny square. When crocheted large enough, this eventually created one sleeve of the cardigan. After creating one more sleeve and a back panel for this creation, I sewed them all together to create this statement piece.

Crochet Bag -
This bag is one of my personal favourite projects as I love the colour scheme and I feel it is one of my most stylish creations. It has a green granny square pocket on the front which I felt helped blend the asymmetrical green and grey colour of the body of the bag.
Crochet Shrug -
For this project, I created a shrug using the same stitches as the cardigan above yet they are complete contrasts of one another. This shrug rests above the chest so it is perfect to layer over clothes as a statement piece with its long sleeves.

Green Top -
This top is created using a triple crochet stitch in the back of every loop to give the top room to stretch as appropriate around the body. The straps on the shoulders are also adjustable so you can make the top lower or higher as needed. I believe that this top is a prime example of how crochet and costumes can become intertwined as this top is something anyone could wear daily.
Bee Plushie -
This Bee is one of many crochet characters I have created in the past. I found that this project turned out as one of my favourite characters as his cute antenna and blush cheeks give him a personality that accentuate his endearing qualities.

Sewing
I have been an avid sewer from a young age and progressed that skill when I got my own sewing machine many years ago. I am a big fan of thrifting and repurposing clothes to make something fashionable, sustainable and interesting. I am also a fan of period drama clothing, particularly corsets and how they are constructed, so I have attempted to make my own corset with a boning structure. It is a skill that I hope to learn more about. I have displayed some photos of my work here...

Blue Corset -
For a long time I have been a fan of the TV series Bridgerton, and as this series is a period drama, corsets are a big part of the costuming. So I came to the conclusion that if I aspired to work on period dramas, I would have to be familiar with how to make at least some kind of corset. So I took a trip to the fabric store to get boning, eyelets and fabric and got to work straight away. After a few YouTube videos and a long weekend, I had finally created my own corset in a dusty blue embellished with gold and dark blue here and there.

Green Floor Length and Mini Dress -
A lot of the projects I like to create are inspired by TV shows, Pinterest or one of the many textile artists I follow on Instagram. For this project, I saw a simple tutorial on how to make your own dress for a formal occasion and I immediately went to the fabric store to get supplies. After successfully creating the floor length green dress, I still had a good chunk of fabric left over so I decided to create a mini dress version for a different occasion.

Patchwork Jogging Bottoms -
This project was an interesting one as it incorporated one of my favourite parts of sewing: thrifting. I took an old onesie that I had grown out of and I cut out the most important aspects of it, then I went to a charity shop and found two old jumpers: one blue and one green. I cut those jumpers in to various squares and rectangles and created the joggers using a pair I already had as a template

School work
I have been a textiles student from GCSE to A-Level and has always been the subject that fascinated me the most, whether I'm doing my artist research, taking photos to inspire me or making my final project, I have always enjoyed every aspect of the subject. Over the years of being a textiles student, my skills have improved drastically and I believe that the transition from GCSE to A-Level has pushed my skills and compelled me to create projects that I may not have before. Here are a few examples...

Felt Headpiece -
This piece was inspired by nature, or more specifically, flowers. I used the technique of wet felting to create a blend of pinks and purples for the petals of the piece, giving it an eye-catching quality.
Green Corset -
For this project, we were tasked with creating a piece of clothing relating to our theme by following a pattern. I decided that a corset would be best as it gave me a larger surface area to work with as my theme was the forest floor.
Blue Skirt -
The inspiration for this piece was the ocean, and the textured effects on the surface, for example: ripples, bubbles, sunlight reflections. I attempted to recreate these effects using many techniques such as bleach, fabric stiffener, scorching with a heat gun and dyeing fabric to achieve a splash effect. The skirt has a zip on its side to ensure that it is able to fit onto the body as the fabrics are not elasticated. I used three different types of fabrics for this skirt, two of them were thrifted tops from a charity shop and the last one was a synthetic fabric that was easy to dye and manipulate with a heat gun.
Crochet Hat -
The brief for this project was to create a piece of headwear inspired by our themes. As my theme was Travel and Documentation, I decided to create a crochet hat made from the fibres of a map fabric that I had found online. I pulled the fibres from the fabric and tied them all together to create a ball of yarn that I could then crochet with. After I had completed the base of the hat, I cut out some of the interesting features from the fabric such as the countries, boats or compasses and I sewed them onto the hat for the final touch.
Arrow Jacket -
This jacket is inspired by the lines and arrows displayed on the London Underground Map. We created two jackets, one for the outside and one for the lining and then put wadding in-between to create a 3D, quilted effect when sewen on top. We also created a collar to fix on the top of the jacket made out of fabric stiffened and hot glued arrows.

Visited
Over the years I have visited many relevant exhibits, museums and experiences. From the Dior museum in Paris to the Worthing museum, I love to visit places that present clothes in any manner or style. I find it interesting to learn about the history of fashion as I believe that is the way to understanding the world of period costumes. Here are a few examples of the places I have visited...

Dior Museum-
When visiting Paris, we decided to take a trip to the Dior Museum to witness some of the incredible outfits made by the fashion house. The work there was incredible, it was full of amazing dresses created with intricacy and determination. It gave me lots of inspiration as the range of outfits and dresses was so wide that it allowed the imagination to run riot. In the museum there was a section on a collection of ballet costumes that Dior had designed and created for a show in London. The costumes were full of tulle and designed in the most delicate pastel pink, there was no doubt that it was for a ballet. It was an incredible place to visit, and even though it is more closely linked to fashion than costumes, I believe that those two worlds rely on each other greatly.
Vogue: Inventing The Runway -
At the Lightroom in London, there was an exhibition all about Vogue showing for a few months from 2025-26. I went to visit the exhibition and I thought that it was incredible. We got to witness a short film about vogue and the journey it has gone through to become the prestigious brand it is today. The exhibition presented not only a collection of dresses and outfits from various designers, but also set up a vanity table to show what its like to prepare for a fashion show. I got to learn a lot about the fashion world from this exhibition which I feel will be relevant to the world of costume as I believe that the two worlds are closely intertwined. If you want to understand how to design costumes for a play or for the screen, you have to understand the fashion of the time period you are designing for.

Worthing Museum -
This exhibition was interesting as it was not a particularly common exhibition, I found out about it through a costume maker I had got in touch with and she said that this exhibition was a compelling one as it was focused more towards period fashion and costumes. It was fascinating to see a real collection of clothes from centuries ago and it gave me an insight into how clothes actually used to be worn and styled. Hung up on the walls was some of the illustrations for the outfits which I found intriguing as they represent the aesthetic of that era and show the culture in a way that we may not have understood without.

Drawings
Drawing is a huge part of Costume Design, you have to not only be able to draw a figure and a costume but also understand the way the body moves and works to create a piece that not only fits a brief but works logistically. That is why I took part in a course in the London Fashion and Textiles Museum that broke down piece by piece the process of drawing for fashion and costume, here are a few examples of my results...

London Fashion and Textiles Museum course -
I took part in a course in the Fashion and Textiles museum that taught me how to draw a fashion figure and sketch a costume or outfit on top of it. It was a really great course as we got the opportunity to wander through the exhibition beforehand and marvel at all the pop-culture clothes that they had up for that exhibition at the time. The course itself taught me a lot about the importance of proportion and stance, techniques that I feel I have been able to incorporate in my sketches since. At the end of the course, some actual designer clothes were brought into the room and we had the opportunity to attempt to sketch them which I though was incredibly beneficial as we got to draw from real life.

Sketches for Textiles -
Since the course that I took in London, I have been able to use my new skill in my work for my A-Level Textiles. Whether its for an artist research or a design for a upcoming project, I have made an effort to use the information I learnt and incorporate it in my sketches. Not only do I make sure I do a sketch for a project, but I think its important to be able to see all perspectives of a design so I try and complete a 360 degree drawing. I also try to create abstract sketches as I feel that its a clever way to spark creativity for an actual design.
